Definition:

Data mapping is the process of matching fields from a database to another. It is basically the first step for data management, data integration and data migration; every organization will need to move around data at some point for various reasons; therefore to carry out this, a roadmap is needed in order to ensure that data gets to the right destination safely. Data mapping helps organizations to store their data safely.

This type of process is also helpful for data extraction, data migration, data integration or for any other data management projects; the quality in data mapping will eventually determine the quality of the data that will be analysed for insights.
