Discrimination

[dəˌskrɪməˈneɪʃ(ə)n]
Definition:

Workplace policies or practices that disadvantage or deny opportunities to people with “protected attributes”, (including, but not limited to, on the basis of race, sexual orientation, or gender).  Employees can be discriminated against within the workplace for various reasons which could include their race, sexual orientation, religion or even disability; it is against the law to discriminate an employee.

Employers must ensure to avoid discrimination on any levels in their organisation; which is one of the reasons why it is important for organizations to put in place policies against discrimination in order to avoid being sued for treating some employees unfairly.
