Lifelong learning refers to the self - motivated, voluntary and ongoing pursuit of knowledge for either professional reasons or personal; one of the main reasons why lifelong learning is important is for one’s competitiveness and employability; it also enhances personal development, social inclusion and active citizenship.

Another purpose for lifelong learning is that it enhances one’s understanding of what surrounds them, improving their better quality of life and providing them with new opportunities. Organizations must involve their employees to participate in lifelong learning, as it has an effect on health outcomes such as recovery and protection from mental difficulties and well being.
