Onboarding

[ˈɑnˌbɔrdɪŋ]
Definition:

Onboarding (also known as organizational socialization), refers to the process of introducing newly hired employees into an organization; it is a process which helps new hires to integrate seamlessly into the organization. Onboarding can last from weeks to a year (depending on the organization); the process involves the following activities:

  • Executive introductions
  • Team introductions
  • New hire paperwork
  • Benefits paperwork
  • Job training
  • Benefits education
  • Culture and policy training
  • Facility tours

Organizations with streamlined onboarding procedures see smooth integration of new hires into the existing workforce and reduce time spent in administration. Seeing these as an aggregate rather than isolated tasks cuts down on duplication of work and ensures accuracy and compliance with the organization’s  procedures.
