Definition:

Outplacement is a program used by an organization during a downsizing or redundancy process. This includes systems and opportunities to help leaving staff transition into new roles, resume and interview practice and job search counselling. 

From an employee’s perspective, offering outplacement helps lighten the emotional load which comes with job loss; as it reassures the employee cares about their well - being; from an employer’s perspective, an outplacement is a way to maintain a relationship with their employees and demonstrate that they care.
