The progressive discipline process is used throughout industries and is a type of waterfall process used to discipline employees for poor performance and other infractions, such as violating policies or not meeting specified goals. Each organization creates its own process, but it usually follows a similar order of verbal warning --> coaching --> written warning --> suspension --> termination. Employers can implement other steps in between, such as additional training or assigning an employee to another job better fit with their skills/abilities.
