Sensitivity Training

Definition:

Sensitivity Training is a program run by the organization (often operated by an external provider) to make employees more aware of their own internalized biases and judgements about different demographic groups.

During this type of training, employees are brought together into an open environment, to participate in group activities and discussions. This type of training helps employees to accept and be sensitive to the diversity within the workplace.

Why sensitivity training is important 

This type of training is important for various reasons; below are some of the reasons why sensitivity training is important:

  • It allows employees to be more accepting and sensitive of the diversity within the workplace.
  • It educates employees about constructive behavior; this will benefit all the individuals.working within the organization by developing correct and acceptable emotional and behavioral actions. 
  • Managers are able to gain an understanding of the diverse behaviors within the team and also of their own behavior. It also helps managers to help their staff members to thrive within the workplace.
  • It raises a form of awareness between employees and managers, and helps create a workplace free of harassment and discrimination.
  • It also aids to build strong interpersonal skills among team members; if staff members have a mutual respect for each other’s feelings,  they will most likely be more productive and happier.
