Succession Planning refers to mapping out the potential movement of current staff into leadership roles into the future to prevent skills gaps and inadequate management skills.

It refers to the process of developing and identifying potential future managers and leaders and other talent to fill in roles within the organization. This process creates a line of succession to identify which employees are inline to move upwards in the organization.
