A summary dismissal refers to the termination of an employee with no notice period given, most broadly used as a disciplinary action to serious misconduct.

A summary dismissal happens when an employee has committed gross misconduct such as: fraud, theft, harassment, discrimination. Organizations must ensure that policies against gross misconduct are put in place in order to avoid it within the workplace.
