Definition:

Targeted recruiting is when an organization has a strict and specific preference of the type of talent they would like to go for and the sector. 

Targeted recruits could be prospective candidates who are located in a specific area,possess very specific skills, are located in a specific area, have a disability, or are part of an under-represented demographic group 

Targeted recruitment has four main purposes which are :

  • To reduce the cost per hire 
  • To gain organizational competency in specific are
  • To increase the number and quality of applicants, especially for difficult-to-fill positions.
  • To ensure the organization represents various segments of society.
  • Gain organizational competency in a particular discipline.

Benefits of targeted recruitment 

One of the main benefits of targeted recruitment is its efficiency; it allows the hiring budget to go further since it focuses spending on pre-targeted and qualified applicants, rather than on a huge pool of underqualified or uninterested applicants.  Another advantage is that it enables an organization to build its brand presence in a select, valuable area, whether geographically or industry-specific.
